The 2007 Wadham & Isherwood cricket season will go down in the history books as the season that never happened. Whilst we had 13 fixtures in the calendar, the monsoon weather and lack of organisational skills from some of the opposing teams (mentioning no names!) meant that we actually only played 6 ½ full games, of which 3 were victories.
Once again the Wadham & Isherwood team was well supported with around 25 players signed up and available for selection (injuries permitting) and for the first time ever Wadham and Isherwood actually have a record 6 home team players along with the usual faces, many of whom have been donning their whites in the name of Wadham & Isherwood for 19 years.
Thankfully the season did not result in any serious injuries and for once all players managed to stay away from accident & emergency - lets hope this tradition continues!
It was decided that the charity game from now on will not be a major fundraising event however will be replaced with a charity golf day. All of us at Wadham & Isherwood would like to thank the players and supporters who generously donated money to the Motor Neurone Society / Marie Curie Cancer Care charities as we must have raised well in excess of £10,000 over the years.
As a result of the fixture problems this year we will be looking for a number of new opponents and if anyone has any suggestions please let Chris, Geoff or I know.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the end of season dinner which is being held on 2nd November 2007. For those who are not attending, see you in 2008.
